Fulfill Your College Goals with an SEIU Scholarship
Being union members enables working families to fulfill their dreams in many different ways, including the pursuit of higher education. To help make those dreams become realities, SEIU offers scholarship opportunities for our members and their children. At SEIU, this includes yearly college scholarship opportunities.
Through five different scholarship programs, SEIU awards 52 scholarships that enable SEIU members and their children to pursue their educational goals at accredited colleges, universities, and technical schools.
SEIU's scholarships are open to SEIU members or their children. The John Geagan Scholarship is open to local union staff. Membership must be for three continuous years as of September 1, 2008. All awards must be for the academic year(s) awarded. Graduate students are not eligible. Scholarship awards are limited to one per household.
The 2008-2009 Scholarship Program application deadline is March 1, 2008.
Applications must be postmarked or filed online by midnight March 1, 2008. Winners will be notified in late spring and announced on www.seiu.org.

» SEIU Scholarship Program (Access Key: "seiu")
The SEIU Scholarship Program offers 48 lottery scholarships: 15 $1,000 scholarships renewable for up to four years as well as 33 $1,500 scholarships for one year of study. All applicants must read On the Rise: to Restore the American Dream, SEIU 2006 Annual Report (pdf) and then correctly answer all the questions on the SEIU Scholarship Program application form in order to qualify for a lottery drawing selection process.

» SEIU Moe Foner Scholarship Program For Visual and Performing Arts (Access Key: "seiumf")
One $5,000 nonrenewable scholarship is available to students who are pursuing a degree or training in the visual or performing arts, and who believe that the arts are a vehicle to advance social change.

» SEIU-Jesse Jackson Scholarship Program (Access Key: "seiujj")
One $5,000 scholarship renewable for up to four years is given to a student whose work and aspirations for economic and social justice reflect the values and accomplishments of the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

» SEIU Nora Piore Scholarship Program
The Piore Scholarship award is renewable for up to four years, and is currently set at $4,375. The financial need of the applicants is considered during the selection process. This scholarship will re-open in 2010.

One $5,000 scholarship to be expended over a 24-month period ($2,500 a year). The annual scholarship is for SEIU members, their children, and local staff who want to pursue a college degree in labor studies.
