Some people join a union, pay dues, and that's about it. They get the advantages of the contract and the benefits of a workplace where workers are put first. They don't get the sense of belonging or participating that makes unionism more than a contract.
We would like to invite you into active union membership.
There are opportunities for active members to sharpen skills through trainings about organizing, communications, leadership, and the basics of being an effective union member. Get involved as worksite leaders--you could be maintaining a bulletin board, illustrating a newsletter, carrying the union message to other workers, or meeting with management. It's up to you. Talk to the leaders at your workplace, talk to your shop steward, or talk to your rep. Your talents are important and needed.
It used to be union members organized dances, musical groups, theater groups, food drives, blood drives, sports teams and events, what have you. That doesn't happen so much anymore, but it should, and it would make the union experience richer for everyone.
Let us know who you are, what your talents are, and what you would like to do. Fill out this form and submit it--and help make our union happen for you.
