Role of Contract Action Team (CAT) Member

The Contract Action Team (CAT) is made up of Local 6 members who are responsible for working with the Bargaining Team during the contract campaign.

The purpose of the CAT is to organize our diverse membership to give us strength on our issues. To win on our issues requires unity and action.

CAT members work with bargaining team members and serve as the communication tool on what's happening at the table. CAT members talk one-on-one with co-workers and give feedback to the bargaining team. CAT members write and distribute fliers, plan strategy and actions, and recruit new leaders.

CAT members are expected to

  • listen to concerns of members;
  • listen to what members are saying, and listen for broader issues (issues that affect nearly everyone are the best ones around which to mobilize);
  • explain the contract to members;
  • talk about negotiations and bargaining issues;
  • answer questions about bargaining developments;
  • organize and lead workplace CAT meetings to discuss negotiations and plan actions;
  • maintain and update membership lists;
  • motivate members to take action;
  • address issues with management; and
  • always strive to build unity.
