Preventing and Surviving Job Layoffs

Receiving a layoff notice is a devastating scenario that we all want to avoid. That's why SEIU Local 6 members are working to prevent layoffs and win the funding that our state and local communities need to provide quality public services.

It's important to know, however, that even in the worst of times, you can turn to your union for assistance. At the bottom of this page are a number of resources and services that are available to Local 6 members to help meet the challenges of dislocation.

Take Action to Prevent Layoffs

  • Support State Fiscal Relief Legislation.

Congress needs to act now to help alleviate our state's budget crisis. This legislation would provide $20 billion to help states avoid devastating cuts to public employee jobs and services and begin to address the huge budget shortfall faced by our state. Tell lawmakers to co-sponsor S. 138 and support access to quality public services and affordable health care.

  • Learn about state fights to preserve and improve unemployment insurance.
