VICTORY FOR SECURITY OFFICERS

Security Officers buck trends, winning wage and job stability guarantees in a tough economy.

Security officers in suburban King County joined their fellow officers in downtown Seattle and Bellevue by ratifying a historic first-ever, areawide collective bargaining agreement with their Employers: ABM, AlliedBarton, Northwest Protective, Securitas, and Star Protection on Saturday, March 21st 2008.

In an economy where nothing is guaranteed anymore, security officers working in suburban King County were able to win guarantees that few other workers have, such as:

Guaranteed raises of at least 2.2% each year for the next three years. No wage freezes or take backs.
Guaranteed access to full-time work. No getting moved to part-time.
Guaranteed job security based on their seniority with the company. No playing favorites with layoffs.
Guaranteed a place at the table to discuss new training programs with the company. No glass ceilings on career advancement.
Guaranteed 8 paid holidays a year, plus 1 paid personal day and paid vacations.

"I feel proud about ratifying this great first contract," stated Mike Ferard, security officer working for Securitas. "Guaranteed raises, job security in these tough economic times, and a path to more affordable health care will help us all move forward."

Janitors ratified a contract that protects affordable full family health care and fair raises

Wage increases averaging over 20% for all janitors
Janitors at the Microsoft campus will see a $1 raise after July 1, 2008
Moves workers on the Eastside towards wage parity with their Seattle counterparts
Preserves affordable, full family health care for all janitors
Employer contributions to pensions more than double over 4 years
Protects janitors from on-the-job injuries
